Springtime brings the birds

Last week a friend and I were discussing the "leaf out" and she explained to me some of the signs of spring in the area. Nearer to town the leaf out had begun and someone reported seeing a robin.

We live about 12 miles north of town, and appear to be about a week or more behind in the appearance of the stages of spring.

During this past weekend we spent quite a bit of time in the forest and around the ponds that are all around. As we drove by the Mill Pond I snapped a few blurry pictures of the swans...and just missed the "heart".

The next day we wandered by foot to the Mill Pond, late in the afternoon. While Builder Man took the lovely ladies for a paddle boat ride, I took the delightful opportunity to bird watch.

I saw the first robin of the season...

A melodic quick red wing blackbird escaped my camera's grasp.

And this morning, darting past several windows and lighting upon the railing just outside the window directly in front of me, a blue jay. Of course, he flitted away before I could get the camera ready.

Later, as we sat on the deck working on our school lessons these song birds gave us lovely music...

Lovely!

Nature Therapy

The weather is just beautiful this spring. People keep telling me that it's an early spring, and I keep thanking God because the cold and the snow were NOT helping me beat the blues!

But the blue sky, green grass sprouting, iris & tulip leaves reaching, bird songs, owl calls in the night...

THERAPY!

I told our visiting friends today, it's like so many gifts from God that were wrapped up in snow, and now we get to watch them UNWRAP!

The trampoline is up and being broke in...the bike helmets are unpackaged and the bikes out of storage. Life is happening OUTSIDE!!

Nature Studies, April 15

What we are reading this spring...

Where we live at this time...

Another of the "welcome home" signs along the driveway.

WHAT we saw as we drove, in the waterway along the driveway

No one, but 2 beavers! And some rustling in the brush nearby has me wondering if we will watch a beaver FAMILY this spring and summer!

Oh the sweet gifts of God.

Sweet Smiles & Good Food

While Mae worked on the pizza, the sisters and I worked together to make this loaf of Zucchini Bread and some muffins, which were inhaled while we waited for the pizza...

Mae mentioned to me sometime ago that she would like to make a Garlic Chicken Pizza, with Spinach. Last night was the night, and WOW, look at this beauty and her perfect pizza!
It was hearty and delicious.

Exploring our temporary home

Usually when we drive to Ft St John for office supplies & grocery shopping, we take the route through Taylor. While the Taylor route is shorter timewise, the bridge crossing over the Peace River is, well, terrifying, to me. I much prefer the route via Husdon's Hope, it is much more scenic, and the bridge crossing, beautiful.

Anyway, this is the suspension bridge over the Peace River near Hudson's Hope, BC.

Frozen water in the dam, there are frozen waterfalls all along the canyon at this point. Very cool!
