Happy Birthday Sweet Mae

Today we celebrate our sweet Mae's 11th Birthday.  What a complete joy it is to be your mother, and to walk along the way with you as you grow in stature and  in knowledge and fear of the Holy One.

Multitude of Gifts...

holy experience

125. Letters to the tooth fairy, sharing the Gospel, and asking for a gift for a sister.

126. More rain. It’s been such a dry spring and summer, several days of rain have brightened this forest green.

127. Survivor games at the community pool. Total, complete FUN! What a great staff to plan and share summertime fun with the children. Lifeguards smiling bigger than the kids…wait, some of them are still kids.

128. Builder comes home Early one evening, to eat dinner, read 3 chapters, hug and pray and get to bed by 8.

129. An appointment with an optometrist is available, only 1 hour away, in the town we already had plans to travel to this Friday.

130. The kind gardener who sees the weeping girl in her mother’s arms, so sad from the story, and brings her a pot of flowers, showing the girl the clear difference between kindness (good) and pure meanness (evil). Eases the terrible grief in the face of seeing wickedness so real.

131. So many stories to read, to share, to think on…encouraging us on to faithfulness, kindness, love.

132. No more Amblyopia! Sweet girl does need glasses all the time now, but both eyes are working well, together.

133. Some terrific, wonderful, no bad, very good days.

134. Maids that work through the night (washer, dryer, crockpot)

This Moment...

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo -  capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

A girl who thinks, but needs to take a few moments to rally her courage...if no one else has thought of it, is it right?  Does it break the rules?
Precious Daughter, keep thinking.  Know that your inspiration, wisdom, understanding comes from the God you are learning to fear and love.

(The task at these "Survivor Pool Games" was to use only the chopsticks and move the dry grains of rice from one bowl to the other, as much as one is able to move, in 30 seconds.)

Marme watched the Sweet Thinker as she moved in the line, arms and hands moving, brow a little scrunched, wheels turning.  Sweet Thinker didn't take the first opportunity, but ended up having another turn, the last person to go...and she did it.  Slips those chopsticks on either side of the bowl, lifted it and carried it to the other side of the table, dumping it into the other bowl.  There was silence for a moment, people were truly surprised.  One dad said '"that girl is a super thinker."

Marme thought for a moment, "No, that girl is learning to Think.  Learning to trust her ideas.  She is simply, a THINKER!"

A little absent right now...

A few good books from the library.  Several boxes of books have arrived in mail.  Books to read to girls, books to read for wonder, books to read to learn, books for girls to read...pure delight!

And although our new school year has begun, we have made plenty of time for visiting old literary friends, and making some new ones!

rowing in wisdom and stature and favor with men...Celebrating another year of learning completed with fun food and smiles.
Another year of
Growing farther up and going further in, to the knowledge of the Holy One and understanding of this life and world we occupy.
Grades are just a yardstick marker, of where we are on a particular scale and where we fit in the masses of children in groups, not really the measure of who we are nor what we are nor really, where we are going.  But here we go...
Chica promoted to 2nd Grade!

Petal Rose gliding into 4th grade

And Mae, oh this girl is growing, into 6th grade.

Multitude Monday ~

holy experience

118. Lazy summer morning conversations about higher learning…algebra, geometry and logic. The excitement of both girl and mom to grow up wise and strong. Learning along with my children is one of the many gifts on this adventure of homeschooling.

119. The surgical procedure was done, and tender mercies were so obviously surrounding Dad. Slept well the night before, a surgery was cancelled, bumping his up, no time to lay in bed and ponder what to come. Just sweet slumber, then drowsey with premeds. Mercy.

120. Quiet mornings, except the sweet voice of one playing “circus” with her playmates…Shiloh, Killer, Bandit.

121. Bubbling laughter in the pool as Builder, Marme & the girls play Sharks & Minnows.

122. Long weekends ~ with everything on the list completed before Sunday Sabbath.

123. Father is released from the hospital to recover in his own home. Sister is able to return to her home, family, knowing Dad is well cared for by friends.

124. Rain! Night long, soaking rain. The thirsty earth now wet with lifegiving water.

This Moment

Two girls, with reserved courage, conquered their fear and JUMPED.  What a joy it was to me, to hear what they wanted to do, to see them think through what is true, to remember what they can each do so well, and to take the JUMP.
I hope they each always remember!
